If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness because you will have the light that leads to life." - John 8:12 In 2001, what began as a simple Wednesday evening Bible study has now become the reality of a new and different church in Findlay, Ohio! It was in 2001 that several women from Findlay began attending Central United Methodist Church in Toledo. There they met Tanya Pike who was a fulltime spiritual director on staff at the church. As the women began to talk, they found more and more people in the Findlay community who were interested in a Bible study where everyone could ask questions and reclaim a faith in God that they thought had been lost. They also found a longing for a safe place where people could experience the freedom to ask questions and develop a personal faith for the first time. On September 7, 2003 Open Door Community Church was born! We are a non-denominational church comprised of equal numbers of men and women. Some of us are gay and lesbian people. Some of us are not. Some of us have physical challenges. Some of us do not. We are an open congregation – diverse and unique. All persons who are seeking God and desiring to worship where everyone is included are welcome to worship with us! Please take a few moments to read our Vision Statement! Open Door Community Church has a lot to offer anyone who is seeking a place to worship where the love and grace of God are limitless! In 2005 we offered eight different Bible or book study opportunities - everything from Disciple 1 through “The Purpose Driven Life.” We have collected food to share with hungry people in Findlay as well as dontating winter clothing items and cleaning supplies to Hope House and other chairties in the Findlay community! We have went Christmas Caroling at area nursing homes, hosted a Thanksgiving feast, and in October of 2006 held our first annual Fall Festival, with line dancing and more good food! Our music ministry continues to grow and be vibrant and creative! We performed the Christmas Cantata “We All Bow Down” in December 2006. It was at that service where we had our largest attendance to date – 62! In June of every year we host the Findlay area Pride Picnic! In 2007 we had more than 100 in attendance! The date for the 2008 picnic has been set and the details are on the newsletter page! There will be activities from bingo to badminton; lots and lots of food and a wonderful summer day! Every other Sunday, following worship we have a potluck meal! Everyone is welcome to stay whether they brought food to share or not! It’s a great way to meet new people! As you can see, we have lots to offer! We also have lots of ideas that are waiting on YOU to help bring to life!
